The World Trails Film Festival is an advocacy film festival that celebrates trail stories and supports on-the-ground trail groups through festival events. In partnership with trail organizations and international conferences, we’ve held screenings in Taiwan, Lebanon, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Our festival programming is much more than adrenaline-packed adventure films on trails, as we center stories that include a wide range of themes, including the power of nature and environmental issues, disability and adaptive recreation, mental health, community building, urban trails, trail-making and maintenance, women and minority groups on trail, and more.
The World Trails Film Festival is heading Down Under! For the first time ever, our globe-trotting celebration of trail stories will premiere in the southern hemisphere, as part of the World Trails Conference 2026, hosted by Outdoors WA in Perth, Western Australia.
After screening 500 Days in the Wild at our 2024 World Trails Film Festival Premiere, Dianne Whelan joined us for an audience Q&A. In it, she shared the highs and lows of making her film (which — don’t let the title fool you — took over 6 years!), a mix of logistics and how she got it done, and some of her biggest lessons learned.
Started in 2018 at the World Trails Conference in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, Trails Film returns to showcase an exciting line-up of trail stories to celebrate trails, the global communities that take care of trails and enjoy them, and to advocate for the future of trails.
The World Trails Film Festival is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of The World Trails Film Festival must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
