- 47 New films, ranging from 2-minute short films to 90-minute features
- Stories cover trails spanning across 35 countries
- Selection of films set to premiere this October in Perth, Australia
Every two years, the World Trails Film Festival seeks out unique and powerful trail stories for our advocacy film festival programming. From over 100 entries, we have selected 47 new films, making for an exciting tour of trails around the globe. There are films that share an intimate lens into deeply personal journeys, epic challenges that showcase the awesome power of the human spirit, and powerful calls to action that reveal critical environmental issues in our changing world.
Every cycle of our festival is unique and offers a unique snapshot of trail stories from around the world. I was struck by the number of stories this year that touched on water, glaciers, snow, and ice, illuminating climate change, Indigenous knowledge, and the importance of respecting waterways.
There were also so many incredible stories of the power of the human spirit in the face of adversity, whether dealing with addiction or persevering against steep odds and inclines.
And another powerful theme: community coming together for a common cause, whether it be blazing new trails, supporting adaptive recreation, preserving culture, opening land access, making space for women, or healing collective wounds.
We are excited to welcome these new films to the World Trails Film Festival and offer our sincerest congratulations to our talented filmmakers.
Award selections have not been announced — we’ll celebrate our Award-Winners in October at our Global Premiere events in Perth, Australia, at the World Trails Conference. Stay tuned!
